Katy Chapman didn’t expect to walk into an antenatal class – 8 months pregnant – and see the ex-love of her life sitting with his heavily pregnant wife. Especially since they slept together about 8 months ago. And Matthew could now be the father of both babies. Oops! 36, successful and happy go lucky, Katy hadn’t planned on getting pregnant – in fact it was the very last thing in her plan. Boyfriend Ben is 6 years younger than her; a PE teacher with mud covered knees who makes inappropriate jokes at every opportunity. He’s not really the person she had pictured spending her life with, but then again, she hasn’t pictured spending her life with anyone since Matthew, her childhood sweetheart broke her heart when they both went off to university. After a dalliance at their school reunion, Katy is now pregnant and doesn’t know who the father is. Not ideal. This novel was incredibly enjoyable to read. It was packed full of wit, funny situations and hilarious dialogue. Katy is a loveable character and Tracy Bloom has managed to create a protagonist that readers will like and feel empathy for, even with the tricky situation of her having slept with her married ex-boyfriend. I recognised some of my own personal traits in Katy. Being a specialist in denial, I found myself nodding at Katy’s actions as I read the book. For me, the most enticing aspect of No-One Ever Has Sex On A Tuesday was the relationship between Matthew and Katy. The easy and entertaining dialogue between these two characters was addictive to read and as the sparks flew between them I had to remind myself that they were both in relationships with other people. Alison and Ben were well rounded and interesting to read and there were plenty of hilarious secondary characters to keep the laughs coming – Daniel (outrageous gay work colleague of Katy’s) was particularly funny and makes her a rather unconventional baby shower gift! Overall, I was touched by these characters and their journeys, and Tracy Bloom’s writing style had me laughing frequently. No-one Ever Has Sex On A Tuesday was a thoroughly entertaining read! 8/10 MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK
