Reviewed by Victoria Sutton I was immediately struck by the beautiful glossy pink cover of OMG Baby! and then when I noticed the author was Emma Garcia I was so thrilled having previously read, reviewed and loved her debut Never Google Heartbreak. It was only once I had started reading that I realised that OMG Baby! was actually a follow up to that and I was about to find out what happened next in the story of Viv and Max… Viv and Max return from Spain, together at last, but with an unexpected baby on the way. This is really going to test their fledgling relationship as they battle with money worries, work pressures and Viv’s crazy mother. Are our much-loved hero and heroine going to make it? I must admit that it was with some trepidation that I read on, unwilling to believe in anything other than ‘happy ever after’… It isn’t long before we are reintroduced to some faces from the past in the shape of Viv’s old work colleagues. There is Christie who she is setting up business with after the success of their ‘Ou est Max’ campaign and internet genius Mike who Viv became unlikely friends with in Never Google Heartbreak and he is helping them with the technical side of things. Viv’s nana Eve is touring the world as a newlywed and although she is away we do hear from her through her letters and phone calls with Viv. A central theme of the novel is the relationship between Viv and her mother Rainey. I did struggle with this as I really didn’t like the mother! I’m quite sure you’re not meant to like her given she is so selfish and self-obsessed and has never been there for Viv but the newly pregnant Viv feels the urgent desire to get to know her now she is with child herself and so she invites her to stay with her and Max. There may be trouble ahead… OMG baby is mainly a light hearted and funny read with some big emotional moments thrown in which had me swinging from laughter to tears at times. I do love Viv as a character with her special way of overthinking everything and honest addiction to the internet. Max was delicious as ever and I still hold a very special soft spot for Dave the cat. Overall it was nice to catch up with some old friends and I finished this novel hoping that maybe Emma Garcia might have a bit more to tell us in the tale of Viv and Max…? 8/10 MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK
