This is a review of Rumour Has It by Jill Mansell. Rumour Has It by Jill Mansell When newly single Tilly Cole impulsively quits her London job for a fresh start in the small town of Roxborough she finds she’s arrived in a hotbed of gossip, intrigue and rampant rivalry for the most desirable men. Tilly has no intention of joining in – she’s just happy with her new Girl Friday job. Then she meets Jack Lucas. Jack is irresistible… and he’s got his eye on Tilly. But there are shocking rumours about his wicked reputation. Tilly doesn’t want to be just another notch on anyone’s bedpost. But is she being mature and sensible – or is she running away from the love of her life? Aaaaahh. Is my first thought when I think of a Jill Mansell novel. For me, tucking into one of her novels lavishes me with a feeling akin to getting into a warm bath, or snuggling under a feather duvet when it’s snowing outside. Okay, okay, I know I’m gushing already and I apologise, but seriously. What a joy. I’ve found it quite difficult to review this book because as a reviewer (and a wannabe author) I am used to reading critically. However that was impossible with Rumour Has It. I was so swept up in the story that I purely enjoyed it without thinking of what I would write for my review. Which at the end of the day is just what you want from a novel.

The characters in the book were especially enjoyable. Tilly was warm and likeable and a very lucky cow for picking up such a great job, in a town that I have since decided I want to live in (yes, I know it’s fictional). Jack Lucas was the perfect hero (his name for a start), a good, wealthy, sexy, funny specimen of hunkosity who I have since decided that I fancy very much (yes, I know it’s fictional) and my favourite character of all, Max, was witty and well rounded and I have since decided I would like to be best mates with him (yes, I know it’s bloody fictional). I thought that the novel’s romance, drama and comedy were balanced fantastically, and the plot lines were hearty and well planned. Both contributing factors to finishing the book in a night. I think that Jill Mansell is so successful because she commands loyalty from her readers by always giving them just what they want. In terms of an involving, escapist, sweet and well written piece of romantic comedy writing, this novel- my friends – is how it’s done. Rating 5/5 You can buy this book by clicking here
