Saving grace I only bought ‘Saving Grace’ by Ciara Geraghty because I read that the author had been signed up for a major book deal with Hodder Publishing, so I thought ‘I’ll buy it cos’ Hodder aint gonna pay for someone rubbish’. And they didn’t! I can honestly say that ‘Saving Grace’ is my favourite book of the year so far. It doesn’t seem to have been publicized very much so I feel very lucky to have found it, and I have to urge you, readers, to buy this book right now!

The synopsis reads… When Grace O’Brien wakes up next to Bernard-from-IT, she blames the out-of-date bottle of Baileys for making her cheat on her boyfriend of one year, nine months, three weeks and six days. But then she finds she can’t get Bernard – geeky dress sense, red hair and all – out of her mind. It gets worse when Grace’s best friend falls in love with a blind date – Bernard. Somehow Grace can’t help feeling that she’s to blame for all this mess. She usually is, after all… The synopsis sounds fairly typical, but Gerghty’s writing adds a whole new sparkle to a tried and tested formula. The character of Grace is very real. Multifaceted, flawed and extremely funny, she is the kind of character you can’t fathom not actually being a real human being. The supporting cast are all extremely readable, especially Bernard, the IT geek, who is actually rather sexy! The reader feels like they are taking a journey with the character of Grace, and the plot twists and turns are so well executed that I found it difficult to put the book down. Every year I hear of some author or other being described as ‘The New Marian Keyes’. Well, this author really is. I know that I am gushing. And I apologise. I just can’t understand why more people don’t know about this book. Buy it. Read it. And then let me know what you thought! Rating 6/5 To buy this book click here!
