REVIEWED BY KIRA SLAUGHTER
Meet Suze, Karl, Mel and Joe. They’re family. They’re friends. And they’re about to discover whether or not they can navigate those other f-words- fidelity and forgiveness.
Suze has a niggling feeling that her husband Karl’s marital satnav has taken a wrong turn and led him down the road to temptation. What’s a suspicious wife to do?
Mel knows that her sweet, docile husband Joe would never, ever cheat. But when Suze, her sister-in-law, hires a honeytrap to test Karl, the results blow Mel’s world apart.
Is this the end of the road for both couples? Or is relationship misbehaviour much more fun when it’s a two way street?
I will hold my hands up in guilt and admit that I’d never read any of Shari Low’s books, yet after reading Temptation Street I will be hunting them down on Amazon. After reading so many good reviews about this book I just had to pick it up and see for myself if they were true, and believe me they were!
The four central characters, Suze, Karl, Mel and Joe were well written and very funny, especially Suze. Even though she comes across as self involved most of the time, she’s very funny and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the things she says. To be quite honest the story is mainly based around Suze and Mel, with Karl and Joe in the supporting roles, yet it didn’t stop me from liking it any less.
The one character I really liked though was Mel. She was the quieter friend who kept herself to herself and was just happy with her marriage and running her shop. Unlike Suze she doesn’t like the drama, yet a whole lot gets heaped on her without her even expecting it!
Upon reading the first few chapters you immediately get the impression that Karl is a cheating pig, yet the twists that Shari Low creates had me sitting back thinking ‘Whoa I did not expect that!’ To me, that is a sign of a brilliant book, it pulled me in and just when you think certain stuff is about to hit the fan, another plot is thrown in. Fabulous!
Other supporting characters include Josie, the OAP that works in the lingerie shop Mel owns. I know what you’re thinking-OAP in an undies shop is a bit weird but Josie is no ordinary OAP! Then there’s Cammy, Mel’s gorgeous friend who is busy working his way around the female population of Glasgow. There is also Virginia, possibly the scariest mother-in-law there ever was. Her and Suze are constantly at loggerheads and it put me off marriage for fear of ending up with a mother-in-law like her!
I won’t reveal too much as I want you to go out and purchase it yourself, yet I will say that it is well worth a read and the reviews were not wrong. It’s fast paced and has sparkling, funny characters that keep you hooked until the end.
I’m giving this a 9/10!
