Three women set off on an adventure to uncover the secrets surrounding their missing father. It may be the only way to lay their demons to rest, but seeking out the truth could tear their lives apart.
When I received this book I was immediately pulled in by the gorgeously colourful cover. I hate to sound shallow but the cover of a book is important to me and if it matches the story then you’ve got my interest piqued.
The first few pages delve into the past where it all starts between Danny and Harriet. They’re on their honeymoon and loving the sights of Mexico when Danny stumbles across a card game in the bar of their hotel. Being a gambler this is bad news for Danny, and Harriet immediately becomes angry. Therein starts the problems. Harriet flees for home and Danny stumbles around Mexico City, drunk and looking for an escape. This is where the story gets really gritty.
Fast forward twenty-one years and we’re introduced to Megan, Esme and Claudia, three girls looking for answers to who their father is. Each girl has their own issues, with the hand that life has dealt them.
I really liked both Claudia and Esme; they were feisty and even after having their hearts broken and being forced to marry at the tender age of fifteen, they still went after what they wanted.
The girls' love interests are the most surprising part of the book. I was genuinely not expecting it to develop as it did, especially with Claudia and her beau.
Together with the gorgeous setting of Cancun, the plot and readabilty of these characters could not fail to pull the me in and I found that once the story really got going, I couldn't stop reading.
