Welcome to eBooks India! Can you please tell us a bit about your background and experience? How did your interest in writing come about?
Well! Professionally I am an educator, interior designer and a content writer. Writing creative content for the last 8 years has helped me hone my writing skills.
Growing up in a little picturesque town, I was inspired by everything around me, especially nature. Since there was so much to see and absorb around me, writing was the only way I could capture those moments!
How did you get into writing poetry? Do you write any other types of literature as well? If so, what else do you write?
I have been writing poetry and prose since a long time. When I was in school I was fortunate enough to have my work published in a youth magazine of that time – “Jetset.” Apart from poems, I also write short stories.
Please tell us about your collections of poems entitled Myriad Hues, which was published earlier on in the year. Where did your inspiration for these poems come about from?
Myriad Hues, as the name suggests, talks about the colours of life. Being a thinker, I often notice little details about people and places. Important things that others have missed! I use those memories to write poems on life, death, nature and God among other things.
Do you have any other poetry or stories that you’re working on and would like to get published? If so, can you please tell us some more?
I have just completed a collection of poems which I hope to have published early next year! Apart from that I am also working on an illustrated book for children. That said and done, the next thing that I am looking at is having my short stories included in various anthologies in India and abroad!
Could you please share 3 top tips for budding poets out there who want to get their poetry published?
When I wanted to have my book published, which was earlier this year, it was sad to see that most publishers were wary about publishing poetry. The mails I got spoke about how the market for poetry is not good etc. Thankfully there are a few who are willing to encourage budding poets and it is because of them we are now able to create a name for ourselves in the writing world!
To begin with, write and share your work on all social platforms. The feedback will help you refine your work and grow more confident.
Try and connect with people who have had their poems published by different publishers in India and abroad.
Send your work to 2 to 3 publishers simultaneously and publish with one that will help you grow as a poet!
All the best 🙂
