Readers’ Club of Delhi is a one stop shop for writers and poets, and readers and lovers of their work. At Readers’ Club of Delhi, you can find a whole host of things such as book reviews, insightful articles about the literary scene, inspirational quotes and a space for authors to share their work. We caught up with Piyush Nagpal, one of the co-founders of Readers’ Club of Delhi to find out more about this exciting platform.
1. Hi Piyush and welcome to e-Books India! Thanks very much for joining us. We’re thrilled to be interviewing you. Can you please tell us a bit about you, and your professional experience?
It is my pleasure to interact with e-Books India. It is always a delightful experience to engage with people related to the publishing industry.
I won’t limit Readers’ Club Delhi by calling it a professional experience. It has been more of a learning experience. We started Readers’ Club Delhi when we were experimenting with a lot of things in the field of web publishing. From interacting with bibliophiles to acclaimed book publishers, it has been quite an interesting initial phase for our Club.
2. You are of course co-founder of the Readers’ Club of Delhi website. Can you please tell us when you started the website and what made you start it? Please also tell us a bit about your team.
When we started with web publishing, RCD was nowhere in the picture. We started with English Honours Helpdesk (enghonhelpdesk.com), an educational website for the students of English Literature all over the globe. After capturing a considerable global audience, we decided to expand. That is when we started three more projects – The Indian Watchdog (www.indianwatchdog.org), Readers’ Club of Delhi (www.readersclubdelhi.com) and FoodStruck (www.foodstruck.org).
We started RCD to bring together authors, readers, poets, poetry lovers and book lovers on a common platform. It provides young writers an opportunity to showcase their talent and interact with renowned people from this industry.
With regards to our team, RCD was co-founded by my colleague Kashish Badar and I.
3. What can visitors expect to find when they visit the Readers’ Club of Delhi website?
From book reviews to quirky articles and an assortment of poetry, we aim to make RCD a place where all age groups can come to read, share and express their literary interests.
We have recently added Vlogging to our website and ‘1 Minute Video Book Reviews’ are our first experiment. Please see the following link for an example of such a review: https://goo.gl/UQ00UI
We will soon be launching interactive forums and sign-up options for instant club membership as our initiative for an integrated reading community.
4. What do you feel makes Readers’ Club of Delhi unique?
The thing about RCD which sets it apart from the other book reviewing websites in India is that most of these websites and blogs are run individually covering only a few aspects related to the world of books. At RCD our team covers book launches, literary festivals (both of large and small scale) and provides a little push to budding writers and poets by promoting their work on our website. Our members also get to meet and interact with published writers in person, so as to gain maximum exposure in this industry which benefits them in multiple ways.
5. What are some of your future plans for Readers’ Club of Delhi?
We plan to expand our user base by including specific accounts for all the users where they will be able to publish their work and meet like – minded bibliophiles. We will be organizing Monthly Meetups including book reading sessions, literary discussions, Creative Writing Workshops and Seminars, poetry reading sessions, book launches and quizzes in our second stage of expansion. With the support of organisations like yours, we hope to be able to create a huge reading community which will help inculcate reading habits among the youth and spread the love for books.
