Rosie Nixon is the Editor of HELLO! magazine. Her new novel, The Stylist, is out now!
1. Write about a subject matter that you are passionate about. It won't work if it doesn’t flow easily – so if it feels wrong, scrap it. First ideas generally aren’t the best ones.
2. Complete a whole draft before you go back to the beginning.
3. If you hit a period of writer’s block, don’t sweat, spend that time reading and thinking – both are just as important to the creative writing process.
4. Write with your own voice – you don’t have to use super long, complicated words to write a good book. Swallowing a thesaurus never impressed anyone.
5. Enjoy it! Writing a novel is a big commitment, so it should be fun and something you are compelled to do.
