Perusing the bookshop I came across a novel called The Vintage Tea Cup Club. It reminded me about the other books inspired by clubs. There's something quite cozy about books with the word 'club' on the front cover. It intrigues, you want to know who is in the club, what they're doing and what each individual's story is. There have been all sorts of clubs put together over the years…
Here are my ten books about clubs.
1. The Supper Club by Sophie King – Four couples meet for dinner once a month. A great way to meet the local villagers, but it doesn't go quite the way Lucy had planned.
2. The Secret Supper Club by Dana Bate – Hannah is living the dream. The career. The boyfriend. But she's frustrated. She's not actually living the life she wants. She would much rather be cooking. When her boyfriend decides to end their relationship Hannah is pushed into finding another apartment. She then decides to host a secret supper club. Which is not strictly legal…
3. The Saturday Supper Club by Amy Bratley – Another supper club. This one put together as a competition for a local newspaper. Eve, a woman who has rebuilt her life after her boyfriend Ethan left her three years ago with no explanation, has a cafe opening soon and a new boyfriend. So what happens when Eve hosts the first supper…and Ethan turns up on her doorstep?
4. The Yorkshire Pudding Club by Milly Johnson – Three women from South Yorkshire find themselves pregnant at the same time. For Helen, Janey and Elizabeth it is either a dream come true, a disaster or completely mind-numbing.
5. The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs – A club that comes together almost by accident. Different ages, different lives. But over the clacking and clicking of the knitting needles their lives are drawn together.
6. The Meryl Streep Movie Club by Mia March – A story of one family, headed by Lolly, being summoned back to Lolly's home for an announcement. Each woman is going through their own personal turmoil but they are able to break down their emotional barriers thanks to the films of actress Maryl Streep.
7. Pink Ladies Club by Emma Hannigan – The only membership requirement for this group is cancer. There is Zoe, Esme and Tanya – different ages, different lives, but brought together by this disease.
8. The Vintage Teacup Club by Vanessa Greene – Three women are brought together over a tea set at a car boot sale. They decide to share it and their lives are changed.
9. The Shoestring Club by Sarah Webb – Two women with not much money. Two difficult events to attend. One dress which would give them the power to get through the day. A story of how two women set up the Shoestring Club and time-shared one dress.
10. The Forced Redundancy Film Club - by Brian Finnegan – Five colleagues are made redundant. On the day they are given the terrible news they join forces in the pub and find a shared passion for films.
