Yes, we know, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, both literally and metaphorically, but there has been an abundance of beautiful covers lately so we thought we should share some of our favourites.
1. Wellies & Westies by Cressida McLaughlin – The first of four novellas in The Primrose Terrace series, Wellies and Westies is gorgeous. Each depicting a dog and a front door (my personal favourite cover is Raincoats & Retrievers out in September) this series is based on a street called Primrose Terrace. In Wellies & Westies Cat takes her puppy into the nursery where she works. When chaos ensures, she gets the sack, so she begins a dog-walking business.
2. One Small Act of Kindness by Lucy Dillon – Libby and husband, Jason, move back to his hometown. Libby finds a woman, injured and suffering with memory loss, in a country road. She takes her in. A small act of kindness that sets off a chain of events.
3. Appleby Farm by Cathy Bramley – Last week Cathy revealed the cover for her paperback edition of Appleby Farm and, my, was it pretty. Currently the story can be purchased as four novellas with the fourth installment out this week. In the book, Freya is called back to her family farm. Leaving her boyfriend behind at Ivy Lane, Freya heads home to the Cumbrian hills and tries to save Appleby Farm. Paperback out August 2015.
4. Ivy Lane by Cathy Bramley – Cathy is becoming known for her stunning novel covers. Ivy Lane, originally in four e-book parts based on Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, is now available in paperback. Tilly Parker moves to Ivy Lane for a fresh start and takes on an allotment thinking it'll be nice and quiet. Little does she know…5. The Vintage Guide to Love & Romance by Kirsty Greenwood – Jessica Beam has lost her job and her home. She decides to hunt out her long-lost grandmother, who, she finds, is the writer of the 1950s Good Woman Guides. Between them, can they get them back into print?
6. The Heavenly Italian Ice Cream Shop by Abby Clements – The sequel to Vivien's Heavenly Ice Cream Shop, this returns to sisters Anna and Imogen. Now with an Italian element.
7. Coming Up Roses by Rachael Lucas – After a rather dramatic event, Daisy, a gardener, flees to the house belonging to her parents' who are just about to leave on their grown-up gap year. Perfect timing as now Daisy could house-sit, dog-sit and sort out their overgrown garden. Daisy thinks she's going to have a quiet time of it. But is she?
8. A Cornish Stranger by Liz Fenwick – Liz's covers and stories immediately make you want to pack your bags and head straight to Cornwall. A story of romance and intrigue against a backdrop of the Cornish coast. Seriously, what more could you want?
9. The Great Village Show by Alexandra Brown – Taking us back to Tindledale, (location of The Great Christmas Knit Off) we are now introduced to Meg, a teacher at the school, who is keen to impose much-needed order to the village show. Then a terse encounter with a newcomer to the village teaches Meg that nothing is as it seems.
10. The Beachside Guest House by Vanessa Greene – Out in September, this is a novel about Rosa and Bee who holidayed, as teenagers, in a converted windmill beach house on the Greek Island of Paros. Now, they discover the beach house has gone bust so decide to take it over themselves.
What gorgeous new covers have you spotted lately? Have you ever bought a book based on its design? You can tell us. We won't judge.
