For this week's Ten Books, we are travelling back in time to the year 2009. Come on, hop on board my time machine!
So, what were you doing the year that Novelicious was born? Well, personally I had a small baby so can't remember much about the year other than sleepless nights, nappies and pushing the pram. But what I can tell you is that this is the year the following fabulous books were published either in hardback or paperback.
1. Platinum by Jo Rees – Platinum was a novel mentioned in the first few weeks of Novelicious's conception. It is a modernised version of the traditional bonkbuster with glamour, escapism and a bit of naughtiness. The story is about three women, a computer whiz-kid, an LA madam and a socialite. All of whom have hit rock bottom and lost everything. They are also united in their hatred for one man.
2. A Spring Affair by Milly Johnson – A Spring Affair was reviewed by Kirsty back in July 2009. Lou Winter starts to de-clutter her house. Who knows where it might end?
3. Girl from Mars by Julie Cohen Julie Cohen's Dear Thing is a 2014 Richard & Judy Summer Pick and one of my favourite books from this year. Back in 2009, Julie was writing for Little Black Dress and I adored her stories then, too. This one is about Fil, an artist for the comic, Girl From Mars, who is about to find her nerdy world all shaken up.
4. The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters – This is Sarah's most recent novel. Her new one, The Paying Guests, will be out in October this year. In The Little Stranger, it is post-war, and a doctor is called to Hundreds Hall, where strange things are happening.
5. Rumour Has It by Jill Mansell – Kirsty raved about this novel, well, any Jill Mansell novel, back in 2009. She described Jill's books akin to a warm bath or climbing inside a feather duvet when it is snowing outside. In Rumour Has It, Tilly has impulsively quit her job in London to live in Roxborough.
6. The Accidental Family by Rowan Coleman – The sequel to The Accidental Mother, Sophie is now in Cornwall to be with the man she thinks she loves. But being a city girl adjusting to a life in the countryside, with two small children, is not as easy as she thought it would be.
7. The Secret Shopper Unwrapped by Kate Harrison – The sequel to The Secret Shopper's Revenge came out in October 2009 as announced in July 2009 on Novelicious. The secret shoppers, aka Sandie, Grazia and Emily are back.
8. The Stepmothers' Support Group by Sam Baker – Former editor of Red magazine, Sam Baker was one of the first author's Novelicious chatted to in 2009. The Stepmothers' Support Group is about five women who come together and bond over finding themselves in a stepmother situation.
9. Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella – Reviewed on Novelicious in July 2009, Twenties Girl is about Lara and her great-aunt Sophie, in ghost form, who has one last request.
10. Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner – Good In Bed, another book by Jennifer Weiner, was, in July 2009, one of Kirsty's Top Ten best books (is it still, after five years of reading All The Books, I wonder?). So she was very excited to announce the future release of Best Friends Forever about two school friends, who part during their teen years, but come together as adults when Val appears in Addie's house with blood on her coat.
What were you doing in 2009? Can you remember any of the books you read?
