Inspired by the third installment of Bridget Jones's Diary we started wondering about sequels, thinking that there must only be a handful of them written. But once we'd started, we couldn't stop. So here are ten books with sequels. Can you think of any more?
1. The Devil Wears Prada and Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns by Lauren Weisberger – Andrea Sachs has no interest in fashion but somehow manages to get a job as assistant to Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine. This, she decides, is her side step to serious writing. But she gets sucked in and her relationships suffer. In Revenge Wears Prada Andrea returns, with Emily her co-worker at Runway. They've created The Plunge, a wedding magazine.
2. The Chocolate Lovers' Club and The Chocolate Lovers' Diet by Carole Matthews – Lucy, Autumn, Nadia and Chantal are a select group, meeting when there is a crisis. The club meet in a cafe called Chocolate Heaven. The Chocolate Lovers Diet continues the story after the club thought they'd got their happy ever after… did they?
3. From Notting Hill With Love… Actually and From Notting Hill to New York… Actually by Ali McNamara – Scarlett loves movies and she is soon to be wed to the very sensible David. Then she's given the chance to house-sit in Notting Hill for a month, and is soon filling her days with movie moments. In the sequel Scarlett has settled on her leading man. But a holiday to New York soon brings new people into her life…
4. Come Together and Come Again by Josie Lloyd & Emlyn Rees – Jack, 27, single. Amy, also single, meets Jack. Two different perspectives as a couple come together. In Come Again it is the story of jack and Amy's friends, Matt, Helen, Stringer and Susie.
5. Ralphs Party and After the Party by Lisa Jewell – 31 Almanac Road. Ralph and Smith are looking for a flatmate. So Jemima moves in. Karl and Siobhan seem very happy. Then Cheri moves in upstairs. In After the Party, the couple from Ralph's Party are now a family. Careers, children. A cat. The carefree times from their twenties seem a long way away.
6. Playing Away and Young Wives Tales by Adele Parks – Connie has been married for a year to gentle and loving Luke. She's very happy. But then she meets John. In Young Wives Tales Connie is back with Lucy and Rose. They're getting used to their new roles as wives, mothers and lovers.
7. Pip/Cat/Fen and Home Truths by Freya North – Cat is a journalist covering the Tour de France. Pip is a clown and Fen works in art. They're the McCabe sisters and each has a book to themselves as they find love. In Home Truths we get their sequel plus we find out what really happened with their mother. The mother that left them as infants to live with a cowboy from Denver.
8. Good In Bed and Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner – Cannie Shapiro is a reporter for a local newspaper. When her ex-boyfriend writes a column about their relationship, Cannie's life is turned upside down. In Certain Girls Cannie is back. It's thirteen years later and Cannie's fictionalised life was a bestseller. She's now writing science fiction under an alias.
9. Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe and Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan – Issy Randall loves to bake but is stuck in a dull job. When life throws her a curveballl she decides to grab it and open a cafe. In Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe Issy returns with more cakes and facing questions about her future.
10. Johnny Be Good and Baby Be Mine by Paige Toon – Meg Stiles is moving in with one of the biggest rock stars in the world, Johnny Jefferson. As his personal assistant. Christian, Johnny's friend, helps keep Meg's feet firmly on the ground. In Baby Be Mine, Meg has grown up a bit. But she has a secret. One that cannot be kept to herself for much longer.
