Many people say that being an introvert has a host of disadvantages, which will hamper your professional life most of all. But, what if I told you, being an introverted writer has advantages in the field of writing? Being an introvert has its own set of positives, if you look for them. If you are an introverted writer, and you are wondering what I am talking about, you might want to read on, to realize your true potential as a writer.
1. Dialogue
One of the main qualities of an introvert is that they don’t talk much. In fact, introverts hate small talk. If you are an introvert, you don’t talk unnecessarily. Being an introverted writer will help you implement the same quality into the dialogue in your writing. You will tend to be as minimal as possible with dialogue, and will hate to waste a single word. Introverted writers want to make every word count and mean something, and they look at the larger picture. So, if you are an introverted writer, your story won’t have any characters engaging in meaningless small talk. Each and every dialogue of your story will mean something, and each and every word will be well thought out and deep.
2. Better Listeners
Since introverts are very good listeners, being an introverted writer gives you a better understanding of things happening around you. You may not speak much in a group setting, but you listen, observe and watch. You will be able to connect dots other people might not even see. Being a better listener will not only enable you to recollect everything that was said during a particular conversation or a brainstorming session with your friends, but you will also be able to catch some subtexts or even some personality traits of people, all this by just listening and observing closely. This, in turn, will help you write better character sketches, and will make your characters and your story much deeper and well-built.
3. Sense of Deeper Thinking
This particular aspect allows you to work out minute details of your stories before you set pen to paper. Being an introverted writer makes you develop a much deeper sensibility about the things in everyday life. You explore yourself a lot more than others, which gives you a better understanding of yourself as a person. Using this quality in your writing brings an irreplaceable value. Once you develop this sort of understanding, your writing will take a whole new turn for the better. Admittedly, writing the first draft may take ages, which is something that all introverted writers have to live with. But once the first draft is done, it’s pretty clean, and very close to the desired final product. After just a few proofreads and editing sessions, the final draft is just about ready.
4. It’s All About You
Finally, as an introvert, your entire story or book will revolve around yourself. You are the one responsible for the final product, and no one else. As an introvert, you will not be dependant on other people’s opinions, criticism and help. Whatever shortcomings you find, they will be yours, and you will always strive to make positive decisions to improve on them. As an introverted writer, you will put out the best product that you possibly can, all on your own.
