While The Beach Hut Next Door author Veronica Henry was in the building last week, we decided to quiz her on her top tips for fellow novelists. She gave us some good ‘uns, too!
1. Be inspired by, not intimidated by, other writers. They are your teachers.
2. Remember that cutting is writing. Every word, every sentence, every paragraph should have a purpose. If it doesn’t, let it go.
3. Never, ever have a character making a cup of coffee, unless they are mixing arsenic in with it.
4. Fall in love with your characters. Be desperate to know what they are going to do next. Throw them out into the world and test them to the max.
5. Polish your work until it shines bright like a diamond.
