Have you ever, one time or another, dreamed of writing a book? If you hace, then you’re one of the millions of people around the world who have done so. Such a dream could have easily been realized, only if they got to the writing part. By not actually turning your imagination into action through writing a book, there are certain things it could cost you. Read on to learn more.
Self-satisfaction
Writing a book gives a sense of self-satisfaction like no other. Imagine basking in the admiration of your friends and colleagues or perhaps of the world. It’s not so bad to be admired either. Let’s face it. It’s good for the ego, as long as the ego doesn’t get carried away! Your self-confidence will also increase. However, since you did not write a book, you will have to settle for spending money on things that could and might make you feel satisfied with yourself, like shopping and hanging out with friends in a bar or at the mall.
Better travel
Love to travel? How much did you spend the last time you travelled? How about the trip before that? And the one before that one? It’s a fortune. On the other hand, if you have written a book and are running your own publishing business, you might travel and do author tours, which can take you across the country and across cities around the globe, if your book has reached enough of an audience already. Some of these travel expenses you can use to reduce your tax bill.
And the truth is there is something very attractive about the travelling author who goes away to distant lands and picks up inspiration for new books. So, you can either stay green with envy towards well-travelled authors, or you can start pecking your keyboard now.
Increased earnings
So you have an MBA and/or a PhD? With the right experience, your qualifications can certainly help you find well-paid work. However, writing a book has the potential to increase your earnings even more. The moment your book is published, you instantly become an authority on the subject. You have attained expert status. There is potential to this. It can mean more consulting jobs with much higher consultation fees, as well as more speaking engagements still with higher fees. Though for now, since you haven’t scribbled anything, you’ll just have to shoulder your tuition fees.
Sponsorship deals
If a business owner wants to promote his or her product, what better way to do so than to have someone endorse it who is an authority figure or someone famous, say, someone who wrote a book? If you have written a book or two, and have created a particularly large following, this authority or famous person could be you. You could charge a sponsorship fee to provide endorsement for a business. Remember, if you’re published author, and your work is good, people will listen to you. What you now says matters. Businesses know this and can use your influence to their advantage, while you also get paid for it.
