If you’ve been stuck in a rut lately, or have this nagging feeling that your writing career hasn’t been progressing fast enough, you shouldn’t give up. After all, there are several signs that are pointing to 2015 as possibly your best writing year so far. These include the following:
Tons of Material Coming Up
2015 is a big year for the entertainment industry – whether it’s movies, videogames, books – all the major studios and publishers have big name properties scheduled for release in 2015; comic book movies, new AAA-title videogames, a bunch of YA novels from the industry’s big names, etc. What does this mean for your writing? You’ll have tons of inspiration and will have a truck full of content to consume in case you need to take short breaks for your writer’s block. If you write reviews for entertainment-related products, then all the better because you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to popular properties.
Tons of Material to Draw From
On the other end of the spectrum, you also have tons of material to draw from as 2014 was a big year as well, not just in terms of entertainment, but also with news and politics. From all the trouble in the Middle East, to the massive power shift in the U.S.’ political system, and even tech-related scandals like the Heartbleed bug and the Sony hack, you’ll have plenty of things to write about if you want to do a look-back write up.
Google is Streamlining Content
It used to be difficult to get your written works noticed online, mainly because you’re competing with spammers who don’t care about quality and just game search engines. 2014 is where Google finally put their foot down and introduced algorithm updates and refreshes that will continue to heavily penalize spam while giving true quality content a chance to shine. So, if you’ve been spending a lot of time writing your best works while looking at your web traffic continue to underperform, 2015 may be the chance where you’ll finally get the readers you deserve, because Google’s got your back.
Self-Publishing Is Becoming Viable
If you’ve been having trouble getting your works published, your options were limited to waiting it out until your luck turns up or self-publishing, the latter still having a slight stigma attached to it, to do with low quality and lack of purpose outside of vanity. However, 2014 saw the rise of many authors finally realizing the viability of the Internet as a distribution method, followed by a decision to release many works digitally. This has the domino effect of boosting the self-publishing industry; coupled with Amazon, Smashwords, and other online publishing services seeing an increase in support from users. In 2015, you can finally self-publish your works and get better reception from the market.
You Always Have the Choice to Be Progressive
Last but not the least, 2015 is a new year and as with any new year, you always have the choice to continue improving, even if the connection between the change in calendar years and your progress is figurative at best. The coming of the New Year can be a symbolic way of getting you to finally shape up and make the year your best writing year so far.
