It is difficult to recommend an eBook reader for reading PDF content. There is a structural difference between eBook readers and PDF files and this is why you may not get the best experience of PDF in your reader.
Wondering why? Here is the answer…
An eBook reader is designed in a way for you to scroll from one page to another. A PDF file, on the other hand, has a page based format. There is no concept of scrolling because you need to move down the pages. So, when you read a PDF file in an eBook reader, the resultant outcome may not be to your satisfaction. Someone may tell you that it is best to read PDFs in tablets and you may be inclined to invest in one.
However, there is one solution that you have in this regard. You can opt for a large screen eBook reader. There are some excellent options available in the market. The only issue with large screen eBook readers is that they tend to be more expensive.
Amazon Kindle DX
This model was launched in 2011, but has not been a bestseller. It has the fewest updates of all Amazon Kindle devices and has very basic functionality. It, however, has a keyboard. With a 9.7 inch screen, the Kindle DX is Amazon’s largest eBook reader. It has 50% better resolution and contrast than the previous models. Its features include 1200 x 824 pixel resolution at 150 ppi, 16-level gray scale, and 10:1 contrast ratio.
Sony
The Sony 13.3 inch eBook reader will be available in the US market this spring. So far it is only available in Japan. It is optimized for PDF files and can interact with complex PDF docs and has an active digitizer. When it comes to reading PDF files, this eBook reader is considered to be the best in the market. The screen resolution of this device is 1200 x 1600 pixels at 150 ppi.
Icarus Excel
The Icarus Excel is among the best e-ink based devices. With its 9.7 inch screen, it offers an amazing PDF reading experience. It has a screen resolution of 1280 x 825 pixels at 167 ppi. It is equipped with a full touchscreen display that can be manoeuvred using its stylus. This device allows editing of PDF files and saving as another document. So, the original PDF file is never lost.
Jetbook Color 2
The Jetbook Color 2 is the only PDF eBook reader with full colour display. This makes it perfect for reading PDF textbooks. The device has a 9.7 inch display with e-ink Triton 2 Display with resolution of 1600×1200 pixels. The only glitch with this device is with its processor. So, one has to be patient when turning pages or navigating through the menus.
Onyx BOOX M92 Black Pearl
The Onyx BOOX M92 Black Pearl is another stylus powered device with a 9.7 inch display. It has the latest software applications and also has Ivona 4.0 built into it. This means that you can easily convert an eBook into an audio book. Its large screen makes it easy for you to read PDF files.
Some of these eBook readers are yet not available in the Indian market. So, you may need to wait to get your hands on one. However, when these products are launched, you should buy immediately, especially if you need to deal with a lot of PDF files on your handheld device.
